Fix normal baking errors by blending an averaged and non-averaged normal bake.
The file contains a script, and a smart material which semi-automates the process of blending different normal maps.

Nice! Thank to plugin!
No problem. Don't forget to vote for the feature which enables a fully automated workflow.
I've been following your development of this handy plug-in. Any news on fully automation?
I am working on an update which automates a bit more. Please vote on the feedback item because I can only do so much with the limited scripting implementation.
Nice! Thank to plugin!
voted w/ 3 of my votes :)
I'm wondering, do SP's recent additions help you out in any way?
NEW SCRIPTING FEATURES
The scripting API has been expanded to support deeper integrations into game and VFX pipelines. The ability to write custom metadata in Painter projects, to batch-import resources in the shelf or track the mesh used in a project represent only a sample of the improvements made to the scripting in Substance Painter 2.5.
A little bit yes. The import resources feature is useful, although that only slightly improves the workflow. It bypasses the need to minimize, then maximize SP. That's all. I need to be able to assign textures to layer slots in order to significantly improve the workflow. Please vote on the item in the description or pester Allegorithmic directly for them to add this feature.
Why is the generator showing up as outdated in the version 2.3.1? Though i change the value of the Slider in edge roundness it doesn't work with the 2.3.1 version of the painter now :(
Not sure why it doesn't work on an older version. You can't update SP to a newer version?
Hi Bit Barrel, I like this idea because of the way it corrects normal detail baking automatically. However, I still find imperfections in my results. Can I e-mail you to try and fix the issue I'm having? Cheers.
You can post it in the forum thread so other people can benefit from it too.
After I upgraded my substance painter to 2017 version, I got map export error while using this plugin. It cannot export the baked normal map to the shelf folder. is there any way to fix this? thank you.
@Liu Yang 0
There is a new API which should fix this issue. I will have a look. Thanks for reporting.
awesome, thank you.
I also get map export errors with the last 2017 version, I even created the folder, but get the same error. A fix for the new 2017 SP would be really appreciated.
I uploaded a new version which works with SP 2017. Please read the manual again because it contains some workflow changes. It will take a while to get approved but you can get it here right away:
Thank you very much!!
What about the ambient occlusion? would it be the same?
Similar, but not quite the same. AO often has gradients across the model and cannot be fixed with a mask as that will cause obvious artifacts. The way solve the skewed bake problem is to bake non-averaged and make sure that the AO radius is very small so I don't get any gradients (or very small) on curved surfaces. It is not perfect but close enough. If you want to manually fix AO bakes, have a look here: https://support.allegorithmic.com/documentation/display/SPDOC/Ambient+Occlusion+Painting
Could you please make a new video for your new version of this? I cannot get it to work in substance 2017.3.3
Sorry, I won't make any more videos of the updated workflow. This is really something which should be build into SP, like it is build into SD. The lack for scripting features makes the current workflow much more complex then it could be. If I would make e new video, it would be obsolete once Allegorithmic changes the scripting system again. Unfortunately Allegorithmic has put both Scripting and a proper build in Normal Fix system on the bottom of the priority shelf. All I can say is follow the workflow in the manual very carefully and make sure you don't miss any of the steps.
Thank you so much !
Has this been fixed? Or anything similar out there?
